Isreal's 60th Birthday

LONG BEACH, Calif. (May 12, 2008)-- On Thursday May 8, 2008 the Long Beach Jewish Community celebrated the 60th anniversary and Jewish Memorial Day.

The community got together at at Alpert Jewish Community Center for a celebration with fun, food and festivities. There was a candle lighting ceremony that took place in honor of Yom Hazikaron a soldier.

People were able to get up and make a speech about the Israeli Defense Forces and also Eyal Azariel spoke about his experience being a soldier. Many different speakers went on stage throughout the dinner to speak about Israel's past and future and its message of peace.

My Thoughts

This is a great opportunity for the Jewish community to get together and celebrate their Memorial Day. It is always nice to hear the stories of past soldiers and their experiences because no one knows what it is like to be a soldier unless one has experienced it first hand.

The event seemed to be very exciting, peaceful, and educational for those that are not to involved in the Jewish Community and they are inquiring about it.
